Race Report
by Tan Hong Chun
The Kiara Downhill Domination is a downhill race series organized by
Freeride Malaysia and sponsored by Oakley Malaysia. Top cyclists
from Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore travel the distance to take
part in this race series. This year is no exception, in the 2nd series for
the year. We arrived in Kiara after a long drive direct from the Tasik
Kenyir Race.
Riders who participated this year include those from Malaysia,
Indonesia, and Singapore.
The disciplines in this year’s race were the Downhill-Men Elite, Open, Master and Junior. The race
went straight into final run without seeding. With only an hour of practice in the morning and after the
long drive, I went straight into the final run.
My final run was smooth sailing until I hit the last section of the course where my rear tyre slided off on
a root section and I crashed. I tried to recover from the crash as quickly as I could and continued the
run. I crossed the finish line, discovering that despite the crash, I had managed the best timing overall
with only 1 rider left to go. I was then ushered to the hot seat, awaiting for the last rider’s timing….. The
last rider crossed the finish line, and he clocked 0.6 sec faster. Quite happy with the result… and if
only I hadn’t crashed…. Well, that’ll be my focus for the next race…. Having a clean run…
The results were as follows:
1) Tan Hong Chun : 2nd Elite men downhill
With these results, I am now 2nd in overall standing with 2 more
race series to compete throughout the year.
Special thanks to Ramlan and Pamela Teo for their support.
I now look forward to series 3 of the race which will be held on the 29 june 2008.
